Rehabilitation Pilates Matwork Classes

What is Pilates?

Pilates is a form of exercise which concentrates on strengthening the body with an emphasis on core strength. This helps to improve general fitness and overall well-being. The key elements of pilates are the abc’s alignment, breathing and core stability.

Pilates concentrates on posture, balance and flexibility. In Pilates the chance of injury is much lower than with other more strenuous forms of exercise. Pilates also focuses on the mind-body connection. While doing the various exercises your mind needs to be constantly aware of your breathing and the way your body moves.

Every exercise is built around the eight basic principles:

  • Relaxation
  • Concentration
  • Co-ordination
  • Centring
  • Alignment
  • Breathing
  • Stamina
  • Flowing Movements

What we offer at the clinic
Each class has a maximum of five people so each person gets a hands on, personalised experience. The instructor is a rehabilitation specialist, see staff profile for more information on the main website. Beginners are welcome. We work with small equipment such as the foam roller, pilates ring, bands and balls to challenge the body in a safe environment.

Assessment
In order to attend a class you will need to complete an assessment with the instructor. This lasts thirty minutes and you will discuss any issues or injuries you may have as well as look at the basics of pilates so you are ready to join a class. All classes are one hour long.

Healthy Back Classes

Alternatively, if you are looking at back pain prevention, then the ‘Healthy Back’ group class is the perfect option. Five people maximum per class.

These classes (private ‘one-to-one’ sessions also available) will give you a gentle, balanced workout with the focus on strengthening the core abdominals that do so much to support your back, improve the quality of your movements and keep your spine healthy.
